The Husick family name has usually meant a lot for the Tussey Mountain wrestling community, and Shawn Husick was another to follow in the family
footsteps.
Husick was one of the most successful wrestlers in Titan history and went on for a successful collegiate career at Lock Haven as well.
Shawn is the youngest of 4 brothers following Jeff, John and Scott. The 4 Husick boys combined to account for 7 total medals at the PIAA Class 2A Wrestling
Championships. Jeff is also a member of the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame.
The 1991 graduate came on strong as a freshman, winning the District 5-2A title and helping the Titans to an undefeated dual meet season. He won the Outstanding Wrestler award at the district tournament that year and went 29-5. In
the semifinal, he beat Meyersdale’s David Warnick, who was a defending state champion, with a 14-5 victory before topping Bedford’s Tim Layton in the final.
Husick went on to finish third at regionals and fell in the semifinals at state before settling for fourth place. Warnick went on to win both the regional and state titles.
His sophomore year, Husick went 27-2, capturing both the district and regional titles. At regionals, he beat Avella’s Ryan Sella, who was a returning state champion. He was undefeated going into the state tournament. Once again, he
fell in the semifinals and in the third-place match to take fourth for the second straight year.
Husick had another outstanding season his junior year, winning a district and regional title on his way to a 30-0 record entering the state tournament.
However, in the practice the day before states, Husick broke his hand and did not wrestle at states.
His senior year was his last chance at achieving his goal of a state title. He won his first 28 matches and entered the state tournament with an undefeated record for the third year in a row. After winning districts and regionals, he again lost 2 at
states, which stopped a 58-match winning streak and led to another fourth-place medal.
He finished his career with 116 wins, which is a Tussey Mountain record and was a Bedford County record.
Shawn was a 3-time Tri-County Tournament winner, 3-time Newport Tournament champ, and a 2-time Bedford Tournament champion, as well.
He is a 4-time District 5-2A and 3-time Southwest Regional champion, as well as a 4-time state qualifier. He was a 3-time state placewinner and made it to the championship semifinals on each of those 3 years. Of his 9 career losses,6 came
at the state tournament, and he had only 1 dual meet loss.
He took his talents to Lock Haven University, where he had some success and some more injury issues.
He placed third as a freshman at the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) after reaching the semifinals at 126 pounds and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
However, he struggled with injuries the final 3 seasons that limited his time on the mat.
Shawn is married to the former Megan Alleman and they are the parents of Karah, Kaden, and Blake. He also has an older daughter, Maizie.
